Threat Progression

The Apocalypse server becomes more dangerous as the world advances. The stages below describe the current server configuration; they are a guide to what to expect, not a replacement for paying attention to your surroundings.

The world may already be well underway when you join. Day count is shared by the server, not reset for each player, so do not assume that you will begin in the introductory phase or encounter early-game zombie strength. Check the current day and prepare for the highest progression stage that may already be active.

Spawn Protection

The area around spawn, roughly from X/Z -25 to 25 and Y 40 to 100, denies hostile mob spawns. This is a spawn buffer, not protection from players or other hazards.

Days 0 to 4

The grace period prevents zombies from spawning anywhere in the world. Use it to establish shelter, gather food and water, and prepare reliable light and weapons. Existing hazards and other hostile spawn systems may still matter.

From Day 4

Zombies can spawn across the Overworld in areas with block light level 0 or 1. Torches and lanterns prevent these spawns at light level 2 or higher, but lighting one block does not make the surrounding route safe.

Surface spawning targets player-height areas and requires sky access, so caves and covered spaces are filtered out of the surface system. Underground zombies can still appear below Y 60 at a lower rate, with a smaller local cap. Mountain areas can produce additional surface zombies at higher elevations.

From Day 10

Zombies are tougher:

  • Zombie health is doubled.
  • Zombie damage is increased by 50 percent.
  • Zombies move 15 percent faster.

Night-spawned zombies also gain 10 extra health. Revisit your equipment before this stage and carry stronger weapons, enough ammunition, healing supplies, and a backup route.

From Day 15

The threat increases again:

  • Surface spawn pressure increases, with a local cap of up to 70.

Avoid treating cities, roads, or open ground as cleared forever. Travel with a group when possible, keep escape routes open, and return to base before your supplies or daylight run out.

Nighttime

Zombies spawning between nightfall and dawn receive an additional 10 health. Plan expeditions around daylight, and use darkness as a reason to return to shelter rather than as an invitation to push farther.

Practical Checklist

  • Check the day count before leaving on a long expedition.
  • Carry food, hydration, light, healing, and a close-range weapon.
  • Use binoculars or a safe vantage point to inspect an area before entering it.
  • Keep a retreat route open and avoid fighting in narrow spaces when possible.
  • Use voice chat for short callouts, remembering that zombies can hear you.
  • Treat every cleared building as temporarily clear.
