Quick Tips
This page covers the systems that are easiest to miss when you first join the Apocalypse server. It is a survival server with a large, server-configured modpack, so recipes, permissions, damage values, and progression may differ from the default mod documentation.
Before You Start
- Keep a spare set of basic tools, food, water, lighting, and ammunition at your base.
- Check the threat progression guide before planning a long trip. Zombie strength and spawn pressure increase as the world advances.
Your First Priorities
Light and visibility
The world is not safe after dark, and zombies gain additional health at night. Carry a flashlight and place light deliberately rather than assuming that one torch will protect an area.
- Flashier Flashlights adds usable flashlights. The pack also includes a flashlight slot integration, so check your Curios slots if the flashlight can be equipped there.
- Hardcore Torches makes lighting temporary instead of permanently reliable. Watch for extinguished lights, and carry replacements or another light source.
- Radiant Gear, dynamic lights, and client visual mods can improve visibility, but they do not make you invulnerable. Keep your surroundings lit and listen for threats.
Temperature, thirst, and food
Tough As Nails adds survival needs beyond the normal hunger bar. Treat temperature and hydration as expedition supplies:
- Bring drinks and food before leaving shelter.
- Pack for the biome and weather you are travelling through.
- Do not wait for a warning effect to start preparing a solution.
- Keep supplies in your backpack or vehicle, but carry enough on your person to survive being separated from them.
Farmer's Delight, Ecologics, and Serene Seasons add ingredients and meals. Use the viewer when you need a recipe or ingredient use.
Death and recovery
The pack includes Corpse and Revive Me!. These systems change what happens when you are downed or killed, but neither should be treated as a guarantee that your inventory is safe.
- If you are downed, communicate your position and do not rush into a second danger zone.
- If you die, note the location and return prepared rather than making repeated unplanned runs.
- Secure the area before opening a corpse or attempting a rescue.
- Ask teammates for help through voice chat when recovery is dangerous.
- You have a few chances you can take to be revived by yourself, or use revive items.
- You will be unable to sleep in beds or sleeping bags if you:
- Take damage in the last 60 seconds
- Are freezing, burning, or taking damage
- Have less than half of your health
Equipment and Exploration
Backpacks and storage
Sophisticated Backpacks gives you portable storage and upgrade slots. Sophisticated Storage provides larger and upgradeable containers.
Scouting
BinocularsMod provides a long-distance view. Use binoculars to inspect roads, rooftops, structures, and movement before crossing open ground. Scouting from cover is safer than standing in the middle of a street.
Map Atlases, Lost Cities, Terralith, Biomes O' Plenty, Underground Bunkers, and Stoneholm make exploration more varied. Expect useful supplies, alternate routes, and threats both above and below ground.
Guns, vehicles and other weapons
See the guns and vehicles guide for weapon, ammunition, vehicle, and turret advice. Remember that gunfire and engines can attract attention, and follow the server rules before deploying automated defenses.
Mekanism and Mekanism: Generators add machines, processing, power, and automation.
Building and Base Security
Protected bases
SecurityCraft adds security blocks and ways to protect a base. Before relying on a security device:
- Read its tooltip and recipe entry.
- Test access with a trusted teammate before storing valuables.
- Protect entrances, power, storage, and emergency exits rather than only decorating the front door.
- Keep a non-obvious escape route for emergencies.
- Never use security features to bypass server rules or interfere with another player's area.
- Utilise reinforced blocks to prevent zombies from breaking in.
MineTraps adds placeable traps to stop zombies from entering your base.
TACZ Turrets provides turrets for the most common gun mod in the modpack.
Building tools
Create, Create Crafts & Additions, Create Deco, Supplementaries, Chipped, MrCrayfish's Furniture: Refurbished, and Armor Statues provide building, decoration, transport, and automation options.
Create systems are built from interacting components. When something does not work, check rotational direction, stress capacity, power input, and the recipe viewer before rebuilding everything.
Computer systems
CC: Tweaked and CC:C Bridge support programmable computers and automation. Treat programs as tools that can affect real blocks and machines:
- Keep backups of important code outside the game.
- Do not run scripts that spam chat, damage another player's build, or create server load.
- Secure computers and connected inventories like any other valuable infrastructure.
Communication
Simple Voice Chat is the fastest way to coordinate a rescue, warn about a threat, or call out a location. Use the voice chat guide to configure it.
Walkie-Talkie provides a longer-range communication option when your group is spread out. Agree on channels before an expedition and avoid sharing sensitive base information in open communications.
Reporting Problems
Report broken recipes, crashes, or unexpected behavior to staff with the item or block name, what you did, and any relevant screenshot or log message. The full mod list is a reference, not an installation checklist.
